The Spring Equinox: A Time For Renewal
Arriving to the western hemisphere on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at 11:06 PM EST, the spring equinox will be in full bloom. She comes bearing gifts, fresh ideas and fruits of seeds gathered in the depths of winter; seeds to be sown come spring. Her flowers will blossom, each petal bearing a sweet reward, and here is all you need to know for this upcoming spring.
Dear to Dream, Dear to Aspire
Across the world, the spring equinox marks a period of renewal and hope. It unofficially marks the start of spring and many see it as the beginning of a new season, and others a new year. Contrary to popular belief, January 1st is never a great time for starting new projects or lunging for our goals head first. These efforts are usually met with resistance from the universe, a crash and burn or divine intervention if you will.
I make this claim because in the winter leading up to the spring we should strive to rest. In a restful and meditative state we are able to collect and gather our thoughts and ideas in preparation for the spring. With the ideas we conjure up, we will be given the opportunity to set new intentions. This assures that when it is time to move come spring, we will meet the universe refreshed and in a relaxed and sure state, after months of shedding and contemplation. We are peeled layer by layer in the winter time and this process of death makes room for rebirth in the spring. You can look at these intentions as your New Year resolutions but the popular approach to these wishes will need some tweaking and I will instruct you on how to do so:
Intention Setting
Journaling
Journaling should always start off with gratitude. When writing a spring equinox journal entry, you should express gratitude for blessings received and lessons learned in the winter time. This is especially true because the winter time is often filled with blessings in the form of material possessions. You most likely said thank you to yourself and other gift givers. But did you say thank you to God? the universe? or your ancestors? You are essentially just writing a thank you letter to whatever forces you may believe in. After saying thank you- write about what you hope to achieve. But do so in present tense and as if you already have what you are asking for. For example, “I am so happy to be living in [insert dream city and state].” My rule of thumb is to never say or write the words “I will”. Act as if it has already happened and in due time you will find that these wishes, shall too come to pass.
Recording
My second favorite form of intention setting is recording. This can either be a voice memo or a video. I love this method because it utilizes the power of the tongue/voice. If you grew up in the church or around older wiser woman there is a good chance that at some point in your life you have heard the biblical saying, “life and death is in the power of the tongue.” When you speak things into existence they are sure to happen. If you feel crazy during this process, you are doing it wrong. Which is fine because, practice makes perfect. Let go of fear and shame and allow yourself to be free of judgement. If you don’t think of this as some sort of silly act and choose to instead hold on to the belief that anything is possible, watch how the blessings will begin to flow in. In this voice recording or video, I would tell a story. Narrate it as if you are the author of your own life (because you are). Talk like no one is watching.
After all, the key to manifestation lies in overcoming fear.
I wish you all the best of luck on your journey and a very happy spring. May the blessings be plentiful and may you always remember to give thanks both in the storm and in the bloom.
